Huawei Magnifies Optical Network Transmission with 100G WDM Prototype
August 01, 2008
China's Huawei Technologies announced on July 25 that the company has developed a 100G WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) prototype, which is reportedly capable of transmitting 10 times traffic on the optical network in comparison with the current mainstream 10 WDM technology, according to a press release by the company. Huawei's 100G WDM prototype is expected to facilitate transmission over a distance of up to 2,000km without resorting to electrical regenerators. Smooth upgrades from 10G and 40G technologies are also supported. Ultra-broadband services including HDTV (High Definition TV) and multi-play are projected to benefit from the deployment of 100G WDM-based solutions in the future.
